And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the Ministry of Reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the Word of Reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

II Corinthians 5:18-20

MOR-Bible, which is by God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. May God's grace, unmerited divine favor, and peace, an absolute end of all strife or trouble, be to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, to the faithful in Christ Jesus.

Father, your Word is your Will for your children. We pray that we can be imitators of you in our walk of love and light, manifesting the power of the gift of holy spirit which you have given us in our day and time. We pray for more boldness to speak and live the truth, of your Word. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

In last month's teaching (May 2025), we focused on Living in the Renewed mind "Put Off." We defined the Greek word apotithemi which is used for our English phrase put off meaning to put off, to lay aside, to remove. We explained the number eight (8) in God's Word represents the first of a new series, over and above, or a new beginning.

We searched, tracked, and traced in the scriptures the Greek word apotithemi or those things we must put off, lay aside, and remove from our walk of love in this life. This teaching showed us that the actions to put off is work the believer must do in his or her mind in order to daily walk in fellowship with God our Father and His son our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now, let us focus on this month's teachings and the things in God's Word we are to put on to replace the things we put off. This month's teaching is Living the Renewed Mind - "Put On," we will:

  • Define the Greek word enduo which is translated into the English phrase "put on."
  • Review some of the 28 usages of the Greek word enduo and define the number 28 as used in God's Word.
  • Search, track, and trace in the scriptures the Greek word enduo to see what we are to put on in our minds in our moment-by-moment walk of life.

Note: The sources for all Greek-English words are Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, The Critical Lexicon and Concordance to the English and Greek New Testament (Bullinger), Young's Analytical Concordance to the Bible, The Word Study Concordance by George V. Wigram and Ralph D. Winter, Bible Hub, and Webster's Desk Dictionary of the English Language.

The phrase "put on" is the Greek word enduo which means to put on, to clothe, to be dressed. It originates from the Greek preposition en meaning "in" or "on," and the root duo means to sink or to go into. The verb enduo primarily means to put on clothing or to be clothed. In the Word of God, it is often used metaphorically to describe the spiritual act of putting on virtues, such as putting on the mind of Christ or putting on the armor of God. It conveys the idea of adopting a new identity or character, much like when someone puts on a garment.

There are 28 usages of enduo in God's Word. The number 28 is recorded 13 times in the King James Bible; in the book of Nehemiah (5 times), Ezra (3), and Exodus (2). The number 28 derives part of its meaning from the fact that it is the product of 7, which represents spiritual perfection in the Bible, and 4, which is the number of the world as this is the world's relationship to God who formed, made, and created it.

Whenever the Word of God says, "put on," it is in the category of work or something we must do by renewing our minds, thoughts, words, and actions to walk as children of love and light, as God our Father. Enduo is an action we have the power to do!

Let us search, track, and trace in the scriptures the Greek word enduo to see what we are to put on, be clothed with in our minds, thoughts, words, and actions by studying God's Word which is by work (see 2 Timothy 2:15)! We will bold this word for emphasis. We will review 10 of the 28 usages. We will read the first usage of the 28, some usages from five of the seven church epistles (i.e., Romans, Corinthians, Ephesians, Colossians, and Thessalonians), and then the last usage. We exhort you to read all 28 usages to increase your understanding of the usage of the Greek word endo used for our phrase put on.

Let's start with Matthew 6:25 as the first usage. This verse begins with the word therefore, so we must read the previous verse to understand the reason or purpose of therefore. Matthew 6:24-25:

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon [the world wealth and riches].

Therefore I [Jesus] say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on [enduo - to be clothed with]. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

In Matthew 6:25, the words take and thought is the same Greek word merimnaó which means to be anxious, to worry, to care for. These verses are telling us we cannot serve two masters, and we are not to worry or be anxious about the material things in life.

Let us re-read Matthew 6:25 with understanding.

Because we serve the living God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are not to be anxious (merimnaó) about what we shall eat, or what we shall drink; nor yet for our body, or what we shall put on (enduo - to be clothed with). Isn't our breath life more than meat, and the body more than raiment?

God's Word tells us to not be anxious about the food and drink you need in order to stay alive, or about the clothes for your body. These are material worries. We are more than the sum of the material world. We are born-again of God's spirit. Our life is spirit, and thus our life is worth more than food and clothes. Wow!

The next usage is documented in Romans 13:12. We will read verses 13-14 for context.

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on [enduo - to be clothed with] the armour of light.

This verse tells us to be clothed with the armour of what? light. In this verse, the act of enduo, clothing with the armour of light, occurs in the mind. It is a practical walk. God's Word tells us to renew our minds to cast off the works of darkness by putting on (enduo), being clothed with, the armour of light. And what is the armour of light? The Word of God! If you walk into a room at night and it is dark, the only way you can get rid of the darkness in that room is by acting and turning on a light! More darkness cannot cast off light, but light can cast off darkness in a room. We renew our mind to put on (enduo) the armor of light and the darkness flees. It is written in Psalms 119:130:

The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

So, if you want light and understanding you must have God's Word! It is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:5:

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

We are all children of what? Light! We must renew our minds and have self-masterly to put on (enduo) and be clothed with God's Word in our minds, so we can walk moment-by-moment as children of light and children of the day. How do we put on God's Word in our minds and actions?

  • The first thing you must do is be born-again of God's Spirit (see Romans 10:9).
  • The second thing is to study God's Word to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).
  • Third, you must renew your mind to manifest these behaviors by putting on (enduo - clothe) your mind with God's Word to faithfully walk as children of the light manifesting the fruit of the light which is goodness, righteousness, and truth.

Let's read the context of Romans 13:12 by continuing with verses 13-14:

Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

But put ye on [enduo - be clothed with] the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Reading this context really enriches our understanding of the message on Romans 13:12. In verse 14, we are reminded to put on (enduo) the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh. The provisions for the flesh correspond with the works of darkness as articulated in Romans 13:12. The armor is an armor of light! It is the Word of God.

And where do you put on the Lord Jesus Christ? In the mind! Not in the spirit!. (See March 2023 teaching.) We do this by work, actions, not by grace. The temptations that Satan hands us are temptations that will get us in the flesh, the senses category. Romans 13:14 says we are to put on the Lord Jesus Christ in our mind, thoughts, words and actions! (See May 2023 teaching.) When we are born into this world we come with body, soul, and a mind. Once you are born-again (see Romans 10:9-10), the mind must be continually renewed (see Romans 12:2) in accordance with God's Word! (See May 2023 teaching.)

The next usage of enduo is documented in Ephesians 4:24. We will read verse 23 for context.

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind [thoughts, words, and actions].

And that ye put on
[enduo - to be clothed with] the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Here we are told to renew our minds, thoughts, words, and actions to put on (enduo) the new man. After we are born-again of God's Spirit (see Romans 10:9), we must renew our minds to put on (enduo) the new man which after God, the One supreme whom is the fountain of life and light and is created in righteousness and true holiness.

The next usage of enduo from the Church Epistles we will look at is in Ephesians 6:11:

Put on [enduo - to be clothed with] the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles [methods] of the devil.

Ephesians 6:11 exhorts us to put on, be clothed with, the whole armour of God. Once again, this action or putting the armour on must be an action we take in our minds or our thoughts. We are not too literally or physically put on armor. We put on the armor by reading and studying and re-reading God's Word, so it becomes an armor, a protection, in our walk of life.

As a reminder, whenever the Word of God says enduo or put on, it is something we can and must do by renewing our minds, thoughts, words, and actions in our moment-by- moment walk with God our Father and His son the Lord Jesus Christ and each other in the body of Christ.

Colossians 3:10 has the next usage of enduo we will read.

And have put on [enduo - be clothed with] the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him (God) that created him [spirit].

The Word of God speaks of having put on the new man. This is an action we take in our minds as we clothe ourselves with the truth of what God has made us in Christ; that is, the renewed mind to walk in Christ! Let us re-read this verse with understanding.

And have put on, or be clothed with the new man thoughts, words, and actions which is renewed, transformed, in exact and precise knowledge after the image of God, the One supreme whom is the fountain of life and light, that created him, the new man, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (see Colossians 1:27).

Colossians 3:12 has the next usage of enduo for our edification.

Put on [enduo - to be clothed with] therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering.

Based on our understanding of enduo, let us re-read this verse.

Put on therefore, as the chosen of God, the One supreme whom is the fountain of life and light, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, in your mind, in your thoughts, words, and actions as the chosen of God!

The next usage of enduo is in Colossians 3:14:

And above all these things put on [enduo - to be clothed with] charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

As we set out to build godly relationships or the bond of perfectness, we must line our thoughts and actions up with what God's Word declares. Let us re-read this verse with understanding.

And above all these things put on (enduo -to be clothed with)the love of God in the renewed mind in manifestation, which is the bond that unites us together perfectly.

1 Thessalonians 5:8 has the next usage of enduo in the Church Epistles:

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on [enduo - to be clothed with] the breastplate of faith and love, and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Let us unpack this verse and examine the richness of the words and phrases to build our understanding. In this verse, the phrase be sober means to be self-controlled, to be watchful. This phrase is often used in the Word of God to describe a state of spiritual alertness, encouraging believers to remain clear-headed and focused on their faith and responsibilities. The word breastplate in this verse symbolizes the protection of the heart. Out of the heart are the issues of life (see Proverbs 4:23 and April 2023 teaching.) The word faith is the Greek word pistis meaning believing something that starts in the heart. The word love is the Greek word agape meaning the love of God in the renewed mind in manifestation. The phrase and for an helmet references the hope or the return of Christ to gather the saints. The word salvation was used to describe the return of Christ, the gathering together of the saints and the time when the awards are handed. (see 2 Corinthians 5:10).

Based on this understanding and the hope of salvation presented in this verse, let's re-read this verse:

Let us, the born-again believers, who are children of light and children of the day, be clear-headed and focused on our believing and responsibilities, who have run this race, with the truth of God's word, having put on, being clothed, with the breastplate of believing and the love of God in the renewed mind in manifestation and for an helmet, the hope, which is the return of Christ to gather the saints.

The last usage of enduo we will look at is in Revelation 19:14. As a reminder, Revelation was written to Israel. However, we can deepen our understanding of God's Word based on the lessons it presents. Revelation 19:14:

And the armies which were in heaven followed him [the Word of God] upon white horses, clothed [enduo - to be clothed] in fine linen, white and clean.

The word white in this verse is the Greek word leukos which is from the same root as the Greek word light related to the concept of brightness or shining. In the Word of God, leukos is used to describe something that is white or bright. It often symbolizes purity, holiness, and divine presence. The term is used both literally, to describe physical whiteness, and figuratively, to convey spiritual purity and righteousness. The word white in this verse doubly established the Word of God as spiritual purity, righteousness, holiness, and divine presence. It is written in 1 Thessalonians 2:13:

For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

Now, let's go back and read the first usage of enduo and the last usage for greater understanding.

Matthew 6:25:

Therefore I [Jesus] say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on [enduo - to be clothed with]. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Revelation 19:14:

And the armies which were in heaven followed him [the Word of God] upon white horses, clothed [enduo - to be clothed] in fine linen, white and clean.

This month's teaching was on Living the Renewed Mind "Put On." We defined the Greek word enduo used for our English phrase "to put on" which means to put on, to clothe, to be dressed. We learned this phrase originates from the Greek preposition en, meaning "in" or "on," and the root duo, meaning "to sink" or "to go into."

There are 28 usages of enduo in God's Word. We learned that the number 28, as used in God's Word, derives part of its meaning from the fact that it is the product of seven (7) which represents spiritual perfection and the number four (4) which is the number of creation. In God's Word, the number four (4) is always the "world" number, representing the world's relationship to God, who formed, made, and created it.

We searched in the scriptures the Greek word enduo to see what we are instructed "to put on" in our minds and in our moment-by-moment walk in this life. We reviewed 10 of the 28 usages of the Greek word enduo used for the English phrase "to put on." Based on this review, we learned we are to put on:

  • Therefore, I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on [enduo] (Matthew 6:25).
  • let us put on [enduo] the armour of light (Romans 13:12).
  • put ye on [enduo] the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 13:14).
  • And that ye put on [enduo] the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:24).
  • Put on [enduo] the whole armour of God (Ephesians 6:11).
  • And have put on [enduo] the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him (Colossians 3:10).
  • Put on [enduo] therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering (Colossians 3:12).
  • And above all these things put on [enduo] charity [love] (Colossians 3:14).
  • But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on [enduo] the breastplate of faith [believing] and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation (1 Thessalonians 5:8).
  • And the armies which were in heaven followed him [the Word of God] upon white horses, clothed [enduo] in fine linen, white and clean (Revelation 19:14).

If you honestly love God, you will keep His Word like a treasure for His Word is the treasure of your life! The Greek word enduo connotes action; God's Word tells us to act in our minds, our walk, and our talk! We ask you to renew your mind according to the intense desire of God, the One supreme whom is the fountain of life and light, putting on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness!

Father, we cease not to give thanks for the believing believers, making mention of them in our prayers frequently. We pray for more boldness and courage to put on your armor of light, the new man, which is created in righteousness and true holiness. Father, we pray for the greatness of your Word to be made alive for us as we put on the breastplate of believing and manifest your love toward each other in this body of Christ. Father, we pray that we always remember the hope of our salvation in the return of Christ. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

The Will of God is the Word of God!

God bless you. Love you. You are the best!

In the Lord,
