MOR-Bible,
which is by God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, may God's
grace and unmerited divine favor be to you. May peace, an absolute
end of all strife and trouble, be received from God our Father,
and from the Lord Jesus Christ to the faithful in Christ Jesus.
Father, we pray always for our brothers and sisters in the body
of Christ, that we may stand perfect and complete in all your Will.
We pray that our walk will be well pleasing and acceptable in your
sight. We pray that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ be glorified
in us, according to the grace of our God and Father. In the name
of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
Last
month's teaching was Part
2 where we searched and tracked the first nine (9) usages of the
name Lord Jesus Christ as documented in Thessalonians. We
learned that this marks Lord Jesus Christ's authority and
power. We defined the number 20 in God's Word which signified expectancy
and certainty. We were reminded that the gathering together of the
saints, the holy ones (those set apart and purified ones by the
Lord Jesus Christ) are our hope and it is certainty!
For this month's teaching, we will continue with Part 3 of searching
and tracking the last 11 usages of the name Lord Jesus Christ
as documented in Thessalonians. These usages mark the Lord Jesus
Christ's authority and power. We will bold the name Lord Jesus
Christ for emphasis.
The 10th and 11th usages are found in 2 Thessalonians 1:1-2. We
will start with verse 1:
Paul,
and Silvanus, and Timotheus [Paul, Silas, and Timothy],
unto the church of the Thessalonians in [by] God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ.
The
Greek word for church is ekklesia which means "called
out." In the phrase unto the church or the called
out, we can ask called out by who? The verse tells us God our
Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let's understand more fully the phrase the Lord Jesus Christ.
In the English language, "the" is a grammatical article
denoting persons or things that are already or about to be mentioned,
under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners,
readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. In
the Bible, the word Lord means master (see December
2020 teaching). The name Jesus puts the emphasis on
his earthly ministry, the humble one that was obedient unto death
(see January 2024 teaching).
The name Christ means the anointed one set down at the
right hand of God (see February 2024
to June 2024 teachings).
Now let's look at verse 2:
Grace
unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ.
Here
again God's Word declares grace (God's unmerited divine favor)
and peace (an absolute end of all strife and trouble) from
who? God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. God
our Father wants us, His children, to know that He has given us
grace and peace! My brothers and sisters in Christ let no one deceive
you by any means; anyone that is preaching judgement, condemnation,
and chaos is not of the true God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ as declared by His Word.
The 12th usage of Lord Jesus Christ references the second
coming of the return of Christ with his angels and the saints and
the born-again believers of the church of the body upon the earth.
It is called the day of the Lord in 1 Thessalonians 5:2.
This is when all God's judgements begin, and it is when the first
and the second resurrection happen. Turn to 2 Thessalonians 1:8
for the 12th usage:
In
flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that
obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Let's
translate some of the key words in this verse from the original
Greek to English. The phrase in flaming fire means "to
burn." The word vengeance means "to vindicate,
to avenge." The word know means "be aware, behold,
consider, perceive." Here the believers are told that those
that are not aware (behold, consider, perceive) God (the
supreme fountain of life and light) will be vindicated or avenged
by burning. The word obey means "to listen, attend to."
The word gospel means "good news." Here, the good
news if of our Lord Jesus Christ. People have free
will to choose to know God is the supreme fountain of life and light
and to obey the gospel (good news) of our Lord Jesus Christ.
It is written in 1 Timothy 2:4:
Who
(God) will have all men [people] to be saved, and to come
unto the knowledge of the truth.
If
you are not born-again of God's spirit you cannot come unto the
knowledge of the truth of God's Word! These teachings we do
at MOR-Bible are to bring you, the born-again believer, unto
the knowledge of the truth of God's Word.
It is written in 1 Corinthians 2:14:
But
the natural man [body and soul only] receiveth not the things
of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither
can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
their
hearts that God has raised him from the dead (see Romans 10:9).
Once this is done, you are born-again of God's spirit, and you can
receive the things of the Spirit of God. You can come unto the
knowledge of the truth of God's Word!
The 13th and 14th usages of the name Lord Jesus Christ are
found in 2 Thessalonians 1:12:
That
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and
ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus
Christ.
(See March 2020 teaching.)
We
ask, That the name, the authority, and power of our Lord Jesus
Christ may be glorified in who? You, and you in him, according
to the grace (unmerited divine favor) of our God (the
supreme fountain of life and light) and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We glorify the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in our walk,
believing action, witness for him by doing the works he did and
greater works by leading people into the new birth which was not
available while he was on earth.
The 15th usage is in 2 Thessalonians 2:1. We will read verses 2-3
for context.
Now
we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and by our gathering together unto him.
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by
spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day
of Christ is at hand.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come,
except there come a falling away [departure] first, and that man
of sin be revealed, the son of perdition [destruction].
These
scriptures are dealing with the first part of Christ's second coming
where he will meet the believers dead and alive in the air (see
June 2019 teaching). There
were some people saying that the day of Christ was at hand; they
were deceiving the believers. Paul corrected this wrong teaching
by teaching them that the return of Christ shall not come except
when there came a departure; first, when the believers depart, and
then the man of sin be revealed, the son of destruction (see December
2019 teaching). I hear all the time the day of Christ is here
and that the book of Revelation is being fulfilled. These people
do error not knowing the scriptures or the power of God (see Matthew
22:29).
The 16th usage of the Lord Jesus Christ is in 2 Thessalonians
2:14. We will read verses 12-13 for context.
That
they [in them that perish] all might be damned who believed
not the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
But [in contrast] we are bound to give thanks alway to
God [the creator] for you, brethren beloved of the Lord
[master], because God [the creator] hath from the beginning
chosen you to salvation [wholeness] through sanctification
of the Spirit and belief of the truth.
Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the
glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Why?
Look at verse 13 - because God the creator hath [past tense] from
the beginning chosen you in His foreknowledge to salvation [wholeness]
through [by way of] sanctification of the [gift of
holy spirit] Spirit and belief of the truth. Whereunto
he [God the creator] called you by our gospel [good news],
to the obtaining [over and above] of the glory [praise,
honor] of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wow! This is powerful!
2 Thessalonians 2:16 has the 17th usage.
Now
our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father,
which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation
and good hope through grace. (See April
2020 teaching.)
Note
here the word hath is past tense or has. When we re-read
this verse, we see that our Lord Jesus Christ himself,
and God [the supreme fountain of life and light]even our
Father, which has loved us, and has given us everlasting
enteral consolation [a personal exhortation, encouragement]
and good hope through grace [kindness]. Oh God, what an incredible
truth! My soul rejoices in the everlasting consolation and good
hope through God's grace and kindness!
The 18th usage is in 2 Thessalonians 3:6:
Now
we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly,
and not after the tradition which he received of us.
Here,
Paul, Silas and Timothy command or charge or order the brethren
in Thessalonia in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
They are ordered to withdraw or restrain from every brother
that walketh disorderly [breaking rank, out of order, out of
place]. Why? Because these people are not after the tradition
[as handed down by the Word of the Lord] which he [our Lord
Jesus Christ] received [into manifestation] of us. This
tells us to restrain ourselves from friends (or people in general)
who do not behave or act according to the Word of God.
The
19 th usage of Lord Jesus Christ is in 2 Thessalonians 3:12.
We will read verses 10-11and 13 for context.
For
even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any
would not work, neither should he eat.
For
we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working
not at all, but are busybodies.
Now
them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus
Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
But
ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
Let's
dissect these verses for a better understanding. Verses 10-11 give
us more commands from Paul, Silas, and Timothy. They command
or charge or order the brethren in Thessalonia in the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ from 2 Thessalonians 3:6. In verse
12, Paul, Silas, and Timothy command [charge, order]and
exhort [encourage] by our Lord Jesus Christ, that
with quietness [stillness, tranquil] the Thessalonian believers
work, and eat their own bread. The next verse starts with
the word But, which means "in contrast" to what
has been commanded previously. Here, the Thessalonian believers
are told to be not weary [lose one's courage; lose heart
in view of trails or evils]in well doing [good; do excellently,
do well]. So, in contrast to verses 10-12, born-again believers
are to hold strong and not lose courage (be not weary) in
doing God's Word as commanded and exhorted by our Lord Jesus
Christ.
The last usage of the phrase under study (the 20th) is in 2 Thessalonians
3:18. We will read verses 14-16 for context. As you read these verses,
and the 20th usage of Lord Jesus Christ, keep in mind Romans
16:17-18:
Now
I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences
contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ,
but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive
the hearts of the simple.
In
these verses, Paul exhorts the believers to stay away from people
who cause division and other actions that are contrary to the Word
of God. Paul tells the believers that these people do not serve
the Lord Jesus Christ and deceive the hearts of the
simple by good words and fair speeches. Man, oh man, is this not
relevant to what we experiencing today? Wow!
Understanding this, let's look at 2 Thessalonians 3:18 (reading
verses 14-16 for context).
And
if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note [mark] that
man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.
Yet count him not as an enemy but admonish him as a brother.
Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means.
The Lord be with you all.
Does
the Lord [master] of peace himself give you peace
sometimes? No! The Lord of peace gives you peace always
by all means! This verse tells me if you do not have the Lord
of peace then you cannot give peace! It also tells me that discord
is not from the Lord Jesus Christ! Who is discord from?
The devil. So, when people are sowing discord are they doing the
work of our Lord? No! They are doing the work of the devil!
Let's finish with the 20th usage in verse 18:
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
Amen. (See May 2020 teaching.)
Amen,
amen. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you
all.
In this month's teaching, we continued with Part 3 of searching
and tracking the usages 10-20 of the name Lord Jesus Christ
as documented in Thessalonians which marks Jesus Christ's authority
and power. This epistle opens with grace - God's unmerited divine
favor - and closes with grace.
Paul, Silas, and Timothy lovingly implored the brethren, the born-again
believers, to keep the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in
their minds and hearts. Our gathering together with him is a continual
reminder of our hope. Paul, Silas, and Timothy also informed the
Thessalonian believers of the flaming fire that will take vengeance
on them that do not know God, and that do not obey the gospel of
our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul, Silas, and Timothy also commanded
and exhorted the Thessalonian brethren in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ, that they withdraw themselves from anyone that
walked disorderly, and not after the tradition which our Lord
Jesus Christ received of us. We saw how they encouraged them
by telling them that the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with
you all. These verses are a tremendous reminder to us in our daily
walk.
This
month teachings taught us:
- Paul,
and Silvanus, and Timotheus [Paul, Silas, and Timothy], unto
the church of the Thessalonians in [by] God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace unto you, and peace, from
God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians
1:1-2).
- In
flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that
obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians
1:8).
- That
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and
ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus
Christ (2 Thessalonians 1:12).
- Now
we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and by our gathering together unto him (2 Thessalonians 2:1).
- Whereunto
he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of
our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians 2:14).
- Now
our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father,
which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation
and good hope through grace (2 Thessalonians 2:16).
- Now
we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly,
and not after the tradition which he received of us (2 Thessalonians
3:6).
- Now
them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus
Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread
(2 Thessalonians 3:12).
- The
grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
(2 Thessalonians 3:18).
Let's
close by reading and understanding 1 Thessalonians 2:13:
For
this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when
ye received [Greek
word lambano
which
means to receive into manifestation]
the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received [Greek word
dechomai which
means to receive to you] it
not as the word [logos]
of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually
worketh also in you that believe. See October
2019 teaching.
Father,
I am so grateful and thankful for you giving us and an understanding
of your Word regarding the hope of Christ's return. Thank you for
your grace and peace that you have given us through our Lord
Jesus Christ. We pray that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
may be glorified in us, according to the grace of God our Father,
and the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Our love be with you all
in Christ Jesus, Amen.
