MOR-Bible,
which is in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Peace to you
and grace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ and us.
We pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of His
calling and fulfil all the good pleasure of His goodness and the
work of believing with power. That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of
our God and the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
In the January 2023 teaching,
we searched, traced, and tracked in God's Word the Greek words for
our English words "be conformed" and "world"
documented in Romans 12:2. We learned we must renew our minds to
fashion ourselves according to God's Word as our Lord and savior
Jesus Christ did! Our conduct and actions are to be conformed to
God's Word! We also learned we must renew our minds to remember
God our Father, with His son, have freely given us all things so
that we are able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth,
length, depth, and height of God's Word!
We must always keep in our minds the return of Christ to gather
together the Church of the body. (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
In this month's teaching we will discuss the following:
- Who
does God's Word declare is the father of lies?
- Can
God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father lie?
- Did
Jesus Christ always speak and teach the truth?
- What
does God's Word tell His children to do when it comes to lying?
It
is common in today's world for people to speak lies. Some people
have made a doctrine or standard to speak lies as part of their
daily living. They do not dwell in the truth of God's Word, because
there is no truth of God's Word in them. Speaking the truth is detestable
and loathsome to them. The common word for lying in today's world
is disinformation or false narrative. In contrast, we, that are
born-again of God's Spirit (Romans 10:9) in the body of Christ and
the household of God, are to be followers or imitators of God our
Father (Ephesians 5:1) and speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15)!
2 Timothy 3:16 tells us:
All
scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness. (Bold added for emphasis).
Who
does God's Word declare is the father of lies?
Let's turn to John 8:44 where Jesus confronted people born of the
devil's seed who were lying. Even today, people born of the seed
of the devil exist and speak lies!
Ye
[these Scribes and Pharisees] are of your father the devil,
and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from
the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no
truth in him. When he [the devil] speaketh a lie,
he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father
of it. (Bold added for emphasis). See teachings of
September 2021 and October
2021.
God's
Word plainly states that the devil "speaketh a lie."
The devil is a liar and the father of lies! The devil dwells not
in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When a foundation
is built on lies, it will eventually fall to pieces. It cannot stand!
Acts 5:1-3:
But
a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
And
kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it,
and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
But
Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie
to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price
of the land?
(Bold added for emphasis).
Who
filled Ananias's heart to lie? Satan or the devil! Who fills people
hearts to lie today? The devil. When we speak a lie, we are doing
the works of the devil, the father of lies!
Can God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father lie?
Let's look at Numbers 23:19:
God
is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man,
that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or
hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (Bold
added for emphasis)
Titus
1:2:
In
hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised
before the world began. (Bold added for emphasis)
Hebrews
6:18:
That
by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God
to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled
for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us. (Bold
added for emphasis)
God's
Word declares "God is not a man, that he should lie"
(Numbers 23:19), God cannot lie (Titus 1:2), and it is impossible
for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18)!
Romans 3:4 sums it up by stating:
God
forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar as it is written,
That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome
when thou art judged.
Did
Jesus Christ always speak and teach the truth? Let's see what God's
Word tells us.
Matthew 22:16:
And
they [the Pharisees] sent out unto him [Jesus] their
disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou
art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest
thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
John
4:23-24:
But
the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship
the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such
to worship him.
God is Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit
and in truth.
Jesus
said in John 8:32:
And
ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John
8:40:
But
[in contrast] now ye [Pharisees] seek to kill me,
a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God:
this did not Abraham.
John
8:55:
Yet
ye [these Scribes and Pharisees] have not known him [God,
his Father]; but I know him [God, his Father]: and if
I should say, I know him [God, his Father] not, I [Jesus]
shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him [God, his Father],
and keep his saying [word].
These
verses tell us that the Scribes and Pharisees had not known through
experience the one true God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus experientially knew the one true God, his Father. He said
if I say I do not know Him, "I shall be a liar like unto
you" (John 8:55). Jesus had a clear picture of God, his
Father, and kept His Word!
John 14:6:
Jesus
saith unto him [Thomas], I am the way, the truth, and the
life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus
did not say. "I am one of the ways;" he said, "I
am the way, the truth, and the life no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me." There are many wonderful people that have done
extraordinary things in this world, but none of them was "declared
to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness,
by the resurrection from the dead" (Romans 1:4). Jesus
Christ is our example of telling and teaching the truth of God's
Word!
In Matthew 22:16:
He
taught the way of God in truth.
In
John 8:32;
Jesus
said we shall know: the truth, and the truth shall make us free.
John
8:40:
He
[Jesus] was a man that told the [truth of God's Word].
And
in John 14:6, Jesus is presented as the truth and the only way to
God our Father.
What does God's Word tell His children to do when it comes to lying?
Ephesian 4:24-25:
And
that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness
and true holiness.
Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with
his neighbour: for we are members one of another. (Bold
added for emphasis).
God's
Word declares that we, His children, are to put on, by our free
will, the new man who is after God and is created in righteousness
and true holiness. We are to put away lying and speak truth with
our neighbors. The word "lying" is pseudos which
is transliterated into "pseudo" which means not
genuine, spurious or a sham. Therefore, you put away the lying which
puts the Devil away. Remember, the devil is the father of lies (see
John 8:44).
God's Word tells us that we are to stop lying! We are to speak the
truth with everyone! The truth of God's Word is our standard and
our foundation! God's Word instructs in the following ways.
Colossians 3:9:
Lie
not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man
with his deeds [works]. (Bold added for emphasis).
James
3:14-16:
But
if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not,
and lie not against the truth. (Bold added for emphasis).
This
wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
For
where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil
work.
1 John
4:20-21:
If
a man says, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar:
for he, that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can
he love God whom he hath not seen? (Bold added for
emphasis).
And
this commandment have we from him [God],
That he who loveth God love his brother also.
God's
commandments to His children are:
- Put
away lying; speak truth with our neighbors.
- Lie
not one to another.
- Lie
not against the truth.
- Love
our brothers and sisters.
Ephesians
4:15 tells us to speak the truth in love:
But
speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things,
which is the head, even Christ.
Ephesians
5:1:
Be
ye therefore followers of God, as dear children.
In
this verse, the word "followers" is the word "imitators"
or imitating. Therefore, we are told to be imitators of God our
Father as beloved children. When we speak the truth, we are imitating
God our Father who cannot lie!
Romans 12:1-2 reminds that to speak the truth, we must not be influenced
(or conformed) by this world:
I
beseech [beg]
you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present
your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable [well
pleasing] unto
God, which is your reasonable [religious]
service.
And
be not conformed [by
the five senses information]
to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind
[to
God's revealed Word],
that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable [well
pleasing],
and perfect, will of God.
Based
on God's Word we read it is good, and acceptable, well pleasing,
and perfect, will of God for His children to put away lying, speak
every man truth with his neighbor, lie not one to another and lie
not against the truth of God's Word. But, in contrast, we speak
the truth in the love of God in the renewed mind in manifestation!
We are to be honestly genuine in love. Purpose that we may grow
up and develop into him in all things. Christ in us is salvation!
We in Christ is our walk in the Lord which is the head of the body
of believers!
In
this month's teaching, we learned that:
- The
devil is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44).
- God
the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father is not a man,
that he should lie (Number 23:19).
- God
cannot lie (Titus 1:2) and it is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews
6:18).
- Jesus
Christ His only begotten son taught the way of God in truth
(Matthew 22:16).
- Jesus
said we shall know the truth, and the truth shall make us free
(John 8:32)!
- Jesus
was a man that told the truth of God's Word (John 8:40).
- Jesus
is the truth and the only way to God our Father (John 14:6)!
God's
Word commands His children by our free will choice to put away lying,
speak every man truth with his neighbor. Lie not one to another
and lie not against the truth of God's Word. We are to be imitators
of God our Father as beloved children.
Almighty God, we pray that our love may abound increasingly in knowledge
and in all judgment. Father, we ask that we approve things that
are excellent and that we may be sincere and without offence until
the day of Christ. We thank you for filling us with the fruits of
righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, the humble one now glorified,
to the glory and praise of you Father. In the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ, Amen.
