And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the Ministry of Reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the Word of Reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

MOR-Bible, which is in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, grace and peace be to you. Peace from God the Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the Will of God and our Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ praying always for you. We thank God our Father always without ceasing because, when you received the Word of God which you heard of us, you received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the Word of God, which effectually works also in you that believe (see 1 Thessalonians 2:13).

In the September 2021 teaching, we learned there are two Spiritual Fathers and there are two spiritual seeds in this world. We also learned the difference between being born-again of the seed of the one true God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and being born of the devil's seed.

When we read in the Bible the phrase "Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit," it refers to those who are born of the seed of the devil. These men and women born of the seed of the devil will always be filled with deceit, fraud and guile. They will act with unscrupulous conduct and with ease and lightness of doing evil. They are enemies of all righteousness! Their goal is always to turn you from the one true God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and His Word!

In this month's teaching, we will review some of the Gospel of John 8 to learn:

  • Who is the light of the world and the light of life.
  • Who Jesus's Father is and where He is.
  • Who Jesus is and who sent him.
  • By experience the truth, and the truth shall make us free.
  • Who were the people that were born of the seed of the devil.
  • How to confront those born of the seed of the devil.
  • The characteristics of the people born of the seed of the devil.

Remember Romans 15:4:

For whatsoever things were written aforetime [before the day of Pentecost Acts 2:4] were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

No one could be born-again of the one true God's Spirit in the Gospel! Why? Because it was not available until the day of Pentecost Acts 2:4. God our Father has documented in His Word the confrontation of His only begotten son the Lord Jesus Christ with those Scribes and Pharisees that were born of the seed of the devil. This was written for our learning. Let's read the record documented in John 8. Please note: The source for all Greek-English words is E. W. Bullinger's Critical Lexicon and Concordance to the English and Greek New Testament (1975).

Let's start with a quick introduction for John 8. Jesus was in the treasury of the temple early in the morning. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them. The Scribes and Pharisees were also there. In the 1st century, Scribes and Pharisees were two largely distinct groups, although some Scribes were Pharisees.

Scribes knew the law and could draft legal documents (e.g., contracts for marriage, divorce, loans, inheritance, mortgages, the sale of land, etc.). Every village had at least one scribe. Pharisees were members of a group that believed in resurrection and followed legal traditions that were ascribed not to the Bible but to "the traditions of the fathers." Like the Scribes, they were also well-known legal experts. This accounts for the partial overlap of in membership of the two groups. According to rabbinic traditions, however, most Pharisees were small landowners and traders, not professional Scribes. (see https://www.britannica.com/biography/Jesus/Scribes-and-Pharisees. Date retrieved 8/2/21).

In John 8:6, these Scribes and Pharisees came to Jesus' teaching to tempt him and accuse him. We will begin with John 8:12:

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Jesus said that he was the light of the world and those that followed him shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life! This makes perfect sense to me since God, Jesus's Father, is light, and in God there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). We know we are children of the light (God), and the children of the day according to 1 Thessalonians 5:5. Based on God's Word if you don't follow Jesus, you walk in darkness! And we can see this in our world today! People who refuse to accept the light of the world and the light of life Jesus Christ walk in darkness.

Let's continue with John 8:13-14:

The Pharisees, therefore, said unto him, thou bearest record [witness] of thyself; thy record [witness] is not true.

Jesus answered and said unto them
[these Scribes and Pharisees], though I bear record [witness] of myself, yet my record [witness] is true: for I know [the Greek word oida] whence I came, and whither I go; but ye [these Scribes and Pharisees] cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

The English word "know" is translated from the Greek word oida which means to have knowledge of, to know. This word implies that the subject has simply come within the knower's sphere of perception or circle of vision. Why couldn't these Scribes and Pharisees tell where Jesus came from and where he would go? Let's keep reading and find out. John 8:15-18:

Ye [these Scribes and Pharisees] judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

Jesus said to these Scribes and Pharisees "I judge no man. . .It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true." Jesus said, "I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me."

John 8:19:

Then said they [these Scribes and Pharisees] unto him [Jesus] where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know [the Greek word oida] me, nor my Father: if ye had known [the Greek word oida] me, ye should have known [the Greek word oida] my Father also.

These Scribes and Pharisees were the religious leaders that taught the people the Word of God. Yet, Jesus confronts them and declares that they did not have knowledge of Jesus nor his Father, God. This is a strong statement as these Scribes and Pharisees should have known God who they were supposed to be teaching the people about!

Luke 1:35 reminds us that Jesus is the Son of God. As such, if these Scribes and Pharisees knew the Bible, they would know (Greek word oida) about God and God's son.

And the angel answered and said unto her [Mary], The Holy Ghost [Holy Spirit] shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore, also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Remember John 14:9:

Jesus saith unto him [Philip], have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known [Greek word ginosko - to know by experience] me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, show us the Father?

This English word "known" is translated from the Greek word ginosko, which means to perceive, observe, obtain a knowledge of or insight into. It denotes a personal and true relationship between the person knowing and the object known. It is to know by experience.

John 17:8 also reminds us that to know Jesus is to know his Father God:

For I [Jesus] have given unto them [the men who God gave him out of the world] the words which thou [Father] gavest me; and they have received them and have known surely that I came out from thee [Father], and they have believed that thou [Father] didst send me.

Based on all that I have studied in the Bible, I believe Jesus came from God his Father and that God his Father sent him into the world!

Back to John 8:21:

Then said Jesus again unto them [these Scribes and Pharisees], I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

Jesus is the son of God (see John 20:31). He identified these Scribes and Pharisees as born of the seed of the devil (see John 8:44). This is the reason they died in their sins because once a person is born of the seed of the devil, it cannot be changed. Therefore, these Scribes and Pharisees (and anyone born of the seed of the devil) cannot go to where Jesus was going. They cannot go to heaven to sit down at the right hand of God (see Mark 16:19)! God's children and the devil's children do not go to the same place!

John 8:22:

Then said the Jews [Judeans, these Scribes and Pharisees], will he kill himself? because he saith, whither I go, ye cannot come.

These Scribes and Pharisees were born of the seed of the devil. They thought Jesus was going to commit suicide by killing himself and could not go to heaven because they believed those who commit suicide cannot go to heaven. They could not understand what Jesus was talking about when he said you "cannot come" because they were born of the seed of the devil.

John 8:23:

And he [Jesus] said unto them [these Scribes and Pharisees], Ye are from [of] beneath; I am from [of] above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

Jesus said to these Scribes and Pharisees that they were from beneath the earth and he was from above or heaven. The English word "of" is translated from the Greek word ek which means out of, from among. Who is the God of this world? The devil (see 2 Corinthians 4:4). These Scribes and Pharisees were out of (ek) the seed of the devil and from beneath the earth. Jesus was not of this world; he was out from the seed of God his Father (see John 20:31)!

John 17:5 tells us that Jesus was in God's foreknowledge before the foundation of the world:

And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

What is so wonderful about this verse is that we, the born-again believers, were also with God our Father in His foreknowledge before the foundation of the world. Ephesians 1:4 confirms by stating:

According as he [God] hath chosen us [the born-again believers] in him [God] before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.

Back to John 8:24:

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

This is the third time Jesus said to these Scribes and Pharisees "ye shall die in your sins." In the Bible, the number three (3) signifies divine perfection, wholeness, and completeness. These Scribes and Pharisees were born of the devil's seed and died in their sins because they did not believe that Jesus was the son of God and the Christ (see John 20:31). Therefore, Jesus said to these Scribes and Pharisees "ye shall die in your sins." People, as it is written in God's Word, if you do not believe in God's only begotten son, you shall die in your sins! John 3:16 reminds us:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 14:6 tells us:

Jesus saith unto him [Thomas], I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12 reiterates:

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Romans 10:9 is the only way you shall not die in your sins! You will have everlasting life and have God as your Father. By your free will you confess:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Once we make this confession, we know by the written Word of God that we are now sons and daughters of God (see 1 John 3:2) and we have received the power of His gift of holy spirit (Acts 1:8). We can now believe to operate all nine manifestations (1 Corinthians 12:7-11). Our Father is the one true God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we speak His Word rightly divided (2 Timothy 2:15)! As it is written, if you don't confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and, if you don't believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall die in your sins! The choice is yours!

Back to John 8:25:

Then said they [these Scribes and Pharisees] unto him [Jesus], who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

Because they were born of the devil's seed, they didn't know who Jesus was, even after he told them from the beginning. The Greek word arkee is our English word "beginning" which means origin.

Jesus said in John 5:39:

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify [witness] of me [Jesus Christ].

These Scribes and Pharisees didn't do a good job of searching the scriptures. They did not see how God's Word bears witness or testifies of Jesus Christ God's only begotten son!

John 8:26:

I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he [God his Father] that sent me is true, and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him [God his Father].

Jesus always spoke those things to the world which he had heard from God his Father! We also speak those things to the world which we have heard of our Father God based on His Word!

Back to John 8:27-28:

They [these Scribes and Pharisees] understood not that he [Jesus] spake to them of the Father.

Then said Jesus unto them
[these Scribes and Pharisees], when ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know [ginosko] that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

The phrase "the son of man" occurs over 80 times in the Gospels. Matthew 16:13 says:

When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

Jesus himself said he was the "son of man." This English word "know" in John 8:28 is translated from the Greek word ginosko, which means to perceive, observe, obtain a knowledge of or insight into. It denotes a personal and true relationship between the person knowing and the object known. It is to know by experience. The difference between ginosko and oida is that ginosko is to know by experience and oida is to have knowledge of something, without experience.

Back to John 8:28, Jesus said as my Father "hath taught me, I speak these things." Jesus also said in John 5:30:

I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

John 8:29-30:

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

As he spake these words, many believed on him.

Jesus always did those things that pleased his Father, God! When we do the Word of God in our life day-by-day, we please God our Father and He is with us!
When Jesus was speaking in the temple in John 8, we learn in verse 31 that some people in the temple did believe the words Jesus spoke.

Then said Jesus to those Jews [Judeans] which believed on him, if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.

The word "if" in this verse is conditional; the Judeans had to choose to continue to believe. You and I must make up our minds to continue in the Word of God which Jesus received from his Father! John 17:8 states:

For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them and have known surely that I came out from thee [his Father], and they have believed that thou didst send me.

John 8:32:

And ye shall know [the Greek word ginosko] the truth, and the truth shall make you free [the Greek word elutheroo].

What is truth? John 17:17 tells us:

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

When we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and continue in God's Word, we shall experientially know the truth. The Word of God is the truth! The Word of God which we experientially know shall make us free!

The English word "free" is translated from the Greek word elutheroo which means to free, set at liberty, to save from thraldom (the state of being under the control of another person slavery, thrall, thralldom, bondage).

John 8:33-37:

They answered him, we be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, ye shall be made free?

Jesus answered them
[these Scribes and Pharisees], Verily, verily, I say unto you, whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the son abideth ever.

If the son therefore shall make you free
[Greek word elutheroo], ye shall be free indeed.

I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

God, through His only begotten son, has made us free and set us at liberty. We are free in our lives now! Why did Jesus' word have no place with these Scribes and Pharisees? Because they were born of the devil's seed. The Word of the one true God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ has no place in those born of the devil's seed!

John 8:38:

I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye [these Scribes and Pharisees] do that which ye have seen with your father.

Jesus spoke the words which he had seen of his Father, God. These Scribes and Pharisees spoke the word which they had seen of their Father, the devil. There are two Fathers spoken of in this verse by Jesus. One is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:3); the other is the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4).

John 8:39:

They [these Scribes and Pharisees] answered and said unto him [Jesus], Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, if ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

Most children imitate the works of their fathers! Jesus confronts these Scribes and Pharisees when they say they were Abraham's children. He reminds them that they did not do the works of their father Abraham.

John 8:40:

But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

Jesus told these Scribes and Pharisees the truth which he had heard from who? God! Once again, Jesus continues to confront these Scribes and Pharisees using their words. He declares that Abraham did not seek to kill God's Prophets. If they are truly the children of Abraham, then they should not seek to kill God's only begotten son.

John 8:41:

Ye [these Scribes and Pharisees] do the deeds [works] of your father. Then said they to him [Jesus], we be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

These Scribes and Pharisees said that Jesus, God's only begotten son, was born of fornication! They also said we have one Father, God. But they did not say which God! There are two gods; the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:3) and the god of this world, the devil (2 Corinthians 4:4). These Scribes and Pharisees sought to kill Jesus for telling them the truth which he had heard of God his Father. Who has the power of death? Hebrews 2:14 gives us the answer:

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he [Jesus] also himself likewise took part [flesh] of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

Based on this verse, I ask you, which God was the father of these Scribes and Pharisees in John 8? The answer is the devil.
God's Word says in Luke 1:35:

And the angel answered and said unto her [Mary], The Holy Ghost [Holy Spirit] shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow [God created sperm in Mary] thee: therefore, also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Back to John 8:41:

We have one Father [Greek word pater], even God.

In this verse, these Pharisees and Scribes did not indicate which Father and God. Based on the previous verse, Jesus told them they do the works of their father. I hear people all the time saying, "I love God" but I am tempted to ask them, "Which one? There are two Gods in the Bible." These Scribes and Pharisees believed they were right, and that their father was God.

John 8:42-43:

Jesus said unto them [these Scribes and Pharisees], If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

Why do ye
[these Scribes and Pharisees] not understand my speech [word]? even because ye [these Scribes and Pharisees] cannot hear my word.

Why couldn't these Scribes and Pharisees understand and hear Jesus's word? The answer is in John 8:44:

Ye [these Scribes and Pharisees] are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar and the father of it.

The English word "devil" is translated from the Greek word diabolus which means the chief of the demons, who are his angels. These Scribes and Pharisees had a direct connection with their father the devil. Jesus said to these Scribes and Pharisees "are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do." Jesus Christ told them their father was the devil.

Jesus further gave the characteristics of the people born of the seed of the devil, so we can know who they are! 2 Corinthians 2:11 tells us this knowledge is important because:

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

The Bible tells us that those people born of the devil's seed shall do:

  • The lusts [anything less than the word of God] of their father they will do.
  • Their father was a murderer from the beginning.
  • Their father abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.
  • When their father he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own.
  • Their father is a liar and the father of it.

In this world when you see people manifesting the above characteristics, they are born of the seed of the devil! It's in the seed of the devil that's in them! These people born of the devil's seed will say they have one Father, God. But looking at their works (see John 8:44) we will know who their true father is - the devil.

John 8:45:

And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

Jesus told these Scribes and Pharisees the truth of God's Word and they did not believed him because they were born of the devil's seed! In today's times, when we tell those born of the seed of the devil the truth of God's Word, they will not believe us!

John 8:46:

Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

Jesus asked these Scribes and Pharisees "which of you convinceth me of sin?" The English word "convince" is translated from the Greek work elenko. It means to disgrace, shame, persons, or to convince, refute, confute, and so put to shame. It the same Greek word used in John 8:9:

And they [these Scribes and Pharisees] which heard it, being convicted [Greek word elenko] by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

Jesus said for the second time which doubly establishes that these Scribes and Pharisees did not believe him! (See Genesis 41:32).

John 8:47:

He that is of God heareth God's words: ye [these Scribes and Pharisees] therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

These Scribes and Pharisees were born of the seed of the devil; therefore, they could not hear God's Word!

John 8:48:

Then answered the Jews [these Scribes and Pharisees], and said unto him, say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

Now, these Scribes and Pharisees said Jesus, God's only begotten son, has a devil inside him. Don't you see? Go back to the characteristics of the devil laid out previously. They were born of the devil's seed! Let's see how Jesus responded to their accusation in John 8:49:

Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honor my Father, and ye do dishonor me.

These Scribes and Pharisee's dishonored Jesus by saying he had a devil in him. This is the same thing those people born of the seed of the devil say today. They say the believer that stands for the one true God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, has a devil spirit in them!

John 8:50:

And I [Jesus] seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

Jesus did not seek his own glory, but the glory of His Father God! We also seek not our own glory but the glory of God our Father!

John 8:51:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, if a man keep my saying [word], he shall never see death.

What kind of death is Jesus talking about? Spiritual! See the December 2019 teaching.

John 8:52:

Then said the Jews [these Scribes and Pharisees] unto him, now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, if a man keep my saying [word], he shall never taste of death.

Based on their experience, these Scribes and Pharisees said that Jesus, God's only begotten son, had a devil! How did they know? Because Abraham and the prophets were dead and Jesus said if a man keeps my word, he shall never taste of death. The word "death" is the Greek word thanatos, which is the normal end of earthly life brought about by sin. They could not understand that Jesus was talking about spiritual death, not physical death! Because they were born of the seed of the devil, they could not spiritually understand what Jesus, God's only begotten son, was referencing. Because they were born of the seed of the devil, they could not understand.

John 8:53-55:

Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

Jesus answered, if I honor myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that honored me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

Yet ye
[these Scribes and Pharisees] have not known [ginosko] him [God, his Father]; but I know [oida] him: and if I should say, I know [oida] him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know [oida] him and keep his saying [word].

These Scribes and Pharisees had not experimentally known (ginosko) the one true God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. But Jesus knew the one true God, his Father. He said if I say I do not know Him, "I shall be a liar like unto you." But Jesus knew (oida) God, his Father, and kept His Word!

How did Jesus know that these Scribes and Pharisees were lying when they said, "we have one Father, even God"? Because they did not know Jesus was the son of God and they sought to kill him, said he was born of fornication, would not hear God's Word that Jesus spoke, and were born of the devil's seed and could not possibly know the one true God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Once you have seed in you, it cannot be changed! It is called in God's Word "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 12:31).

Jesus Christ showed us the characteristics of the people born of the seed of the devil so we can know who they are! Remember 2 Corinthians 2:11 said:

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world and the light of life. He spoke to the world those things which he heard of God his Father. He always did those things that pleased God his Father. If we continue in His Word, then are we his disciples indeed! We shall know (ginosko) by experience the truth, and the truth shall make us free! God's only begotten son has made us free indeed! He always spoke truth and obeyed those truths which he had heard from his Father. He came from God; God sent him. We are born-again of the one true God and Father our Lord Jesus Christ!

In this month's teaching, we reviewed some of the Gospel of John 8. We learned who is the light of the world and the light of life. We learned who Jesus's Father is and where He is. We learned who Jesus is and who sent him. We learned how to know by experience the truth, and the truth shall make us free. We also learned who were the people that were born of the seed of the devil and how to confront those born of the seed of the devil. And we learned the characteristics of the people born of the seed of the devil.

Father, I am so grateful and thankful for your Word which is your Will. For by your divine power, you have given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of your Word, you have called us to glory and virtue. In the name of the Lord Jesus Chris, Amen.

Next month's teaching: We will review Philippians 4:6.
