And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the Ministry of Reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the Word of Reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Father, thank you that you are the only true God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 1:3). We know we can be strong in you Father, and the power of your might (Ephesians 6:10). Father, You are not a man, that you should lie; neither the son of man, that you should repent: hath you said, and shall you not do it? or hath you spoken, and shall you not make it good (Numbers 23:19)? Father, thank you for by two immutable things, you cannot lie (Hebrews 6:18). Father, thank you for the integrity of your Word. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:20), Amen.

In the May 2021 teaching, we defined the phrase "One God." We saw in God's Word that "One God " refers to the one true God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. We learned from God's Word there are two gods: The one true God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and the devil or the false god of this world. In this teaching, we learned from God's Word we are now in the Grace Administration. To be born again of God's Spirit (see Romans 10:9), we must confess with our mouths the Lord Jesus and believe in our hearts that God has raised him (Jesus) from the dead. In this manner, we shall then be saved (born-again of God's Spirit). Finally, we learned from God's Word the number seven represents permanent spiritual perfection. We discussed what the number seven represents in God's Word as "One God" is listed seventh in Ephesians 4:6 and read a few examples.

In this month's teaching Part 2 of "One God," we will search the scriptures for some examples of the Greek word Theos for our English word "God." The English word "God" is the Greek word Theos which occurs 1,343 times in God's Word as documented in Matthew through Revelation.

Theos or God is a name reclaimed from the heathen and used in the New Testament for the true God. However, over time, Theos lost the meaning of the one God came to mean "a God" or only one of the many gods. Thus, it became necessary in the New Testament to distinguish it by the article "the" or the God, the one supreme with whom is the fountain of life and light. The Bible tells us to know Him (the God) that has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light is "life eternal." The God is "the fountain of life" and "in his light alone can we see light."

In the Septuagint (the Hebrew Bible -the Old Testament), Theos is (with very few exceptions) the translation of the plural Elohim. It is used frequently for Jehovah. The root word has several meanings: 1. to be strong, powerful, 2. to take precedence, be first, and 3. God as the mighty one, the one above all, the first, combining the idea of inspiring awe and adoration. Please note: The source for all Greek-English words is E. W. Bullinger's Critical Lexicon and Concordance to the English and Greek New Testament (1975).

Because of the huge number of scriptures (1,343) associated with Theos, we are going to review the first and last usages for the Greek word Theos as documented in the Gospels, Church Epistles, and Revelation. I encourage you to please read the contexts of these scriptures in order to receive more understanding.

Matthew 1:23:

Behold, a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God [Theos - the God, the one supreme with whom is the fountain of life and light] with us.

How was God with us? By His only begotten son Jesus' service to mankind. The name Emmanuel is one of the names given to Jesus meaning "God with us" (See above Matthew 1:23). The name Jesus means God our savior. It should be noted in God's Word the name Joshua means Jehovah is salvation. There are some churches which teach that Jesus and God are the same. However, if Jesus is God, then Joshua is God!

The word Christ identifies the name of Jesus' changed position. In other words, Christ signifies Jesus is raised from the dead and exalted in glory! We are in Christ in the Church Epistles, representing our position, blessing, and standing before God our Father! There is one true God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father!

Let's look at some of the representations of Theos in the Bible. Matthew 27:54 tells us:

Revelation 22:19:

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God [Theos] shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

We looked at some of the scriptures for examples of the Greek word Theos which represents our English word "God." It was a great joy and rejoicing for me to read God's Word concerning Theos and understand this word to mean the God, the one supreme with whom is the fountain of life and light. God our Father is all powerful. He is first. He is the one above all. He is Elohim, the Creator. He is Jehovah, representing His connection to what He created. And He is El Shaddai, Almighty God! Only in God's Word can we know our heavenly Father!

Father, thank you for your Word which provides instructions to your children about who you are to us; our Father, the one supreme God with whom is the fountain of life and light. Thank you Father for your Word which tells us you are all powerful, first, the one above all, Elohim, the Creator, and Jehovah, representing your connection to what you created. Thank you for teaching us that you are called El Shaddai, Almighty God! In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

All that is within my spirit, soul, and body, bless the one supreme God with whom is the fountain of life and light! Glory, honor, and praise be to God our Father for His Word which is His Will! We sure do love you. Bless your hearts. You are the best!

Next month's teaching, we continue with the eighth and final unity of the Spirit documented in Ephesians 4:6 - Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

In the Lord,

Ministry of Reconciliation
Son of God through Jesus Christ
Ambassador for Christ
