Father,
thank you for your love, peace, grace and everlasting life you have
already given us through your son the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you,
Father, for clearly giving us an understanding of your Word concerning
who your only begotten son is. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Last month's teaching focused on the concept of Spiritual Growth
- Part 1. Key points from the June
2020 included:
- We
must daily study to show our self, approved unto God.
- We
must search, trace, and track the Word of God daily to rightly
divide it, make a distinction, and come to a decision that what
God's Word says is truth!
- We
must receive the Word of God with all eagerness of mind.
- We
must believe there is only one true God, Elohim the creator and
the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Jesus
himself said that God is his Father.
This
month's teaching continues with Spiritual Growth Part 2. Spiritual
growth can only be achieved by rightly dividing God's Word on who
Jesus Christ is. Spiritual growth is dependent upon our action on
God's rightly divided Word!
In this month's teaching, we will learn from the Bible who:
- God
our Father says His son is;
- God's
son, the Lord Jesus Christ, says he is;
- Jesus's
disciples declare he is;
- The
devil spirits say Jesus is; and
- The
Church Epistles (Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians,
Colossians, and Thessalonians) state Jesus is.
First
and foremost, who did God say Jesus is? God made the world and all
things therein. As the Lord of heaven and earth and the one who
gave life and breath to all things, let us turn to the Bible and
see who He declares Jesus to be.
Matthew
3:17:
And
lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is my beloved Son, in whom
I am well pleased.
Matthew
17:5:
While
he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold
a voice out of the cloud, which said, this is my beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
Mark
1:11:
And
there came a voice from heaven, saying, thou art my beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased.
Mark
9:7:
And
there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out
of the cloud, saying, this is my beloved Son: hear him.
Luke
3:22:
And
the Holy Ghost [holy spirit] descended in a bodily shape
like a dove upon him [Jesus], and a voice came from heaven,
which said, thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
Luke
9:35:
And
there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, this is my beloved
Son: hear him.
How
many times does God have to say who His son is before people believe
it? I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God. There are many churches
that teach Jesus is God. Now you can believe tradition or renew
your mind to God's Word, in order to prove what is good, and acceptable,
and the perfect will of God!
Romans
12:2:
And
be not conformed [by the five senses information] to this
world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind [to
God's revealed Word], that ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
One
meaning of the renewed mind is to hold the Word of God in your mind
and act accordingly. We must walk by the Word of God. What you believe
is what you say and do. Your mind directs your talk and your actions!
Our
lives are transformed by renewing our minds to God's Word. In this
manner, we can prove what is that good, acceptable, and perfect
Will of God (see October
2016 teaching).
How
do we renew our minds? The only way we can do this is to be born-again
of God's Spirit. We are to have a knowledge of God's Word rightly
divided. Our will determines how far we will go with God! God's
Word says Jesus is the son of God!
Jesus
himself says he is the son of God!
Matthew
27:43:
He
trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him:
for he [Jesus] said, I am the Son of God.
John
9:35-37:
Jesus
heard that they [Pharisees] had cast him [man born
blind from his birth healed by Jesus] out; and when he had
found him, he said unto him, dost thou believe on the Son of God?
He answered and said, who is he, Lord [master], that I
might believe on him?
And Jesus said unto him, thou hast both seen him, and it is he
that talketh with thee.
John
10:36:
Say
ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the
world, thou blaspheme; because I said, I am the Son of God?
John
19:7:
The
Jews [Judeans] answered him, we have a law, and by our
law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
Jesus
said I am the son of God! The Bible provides clear and direct evidence
that Jesus is the son of God.
Next,
let's discern who the disciples believed Jesus was. Did they believe
that Jesus was God? Or the son of God? Jesus asked his disciples,
"Whom say you I am?" in Matthew 16:15-16.
He
[Jesus] saith unto them [his disciples], but whom
say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, thou art the Christ [the
Anointed, the Messiah], the Son of the living God.
Did
Jesus say, "No Simon Peter, I am God the son?" No!
Matthew
16:17:
And
Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona:
for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father
which is in heaven."
What
was reveal to Peter by God? Jesus is Christ, the Son of the living
God!
We
continue with who Jesus's disciples said he is, in the Gospels.
Mathew
14:33:
Then
they [disciples] that were in the ship came and worshipped
him, saying, of a truth thou art the Son of God.
Mark
1:1:
The
beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
In
the Luke 1:35, the angel said to Mary, "the son born of
you shall be the Son of God."
And
the angel answered and said unto her [Mary], the Holy Ghost
[Spirit] shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest
shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall
be born of thee shall [absolutely] be called the Son of
God.
What
shall that holy thing be called? The Son of God!
John
1:34:
And
I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
John
20:30-31:
And
many other signs truly did Jesus [the Savior] in the presence
of his disciples, which are not written in this book.
But
these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus [the
Savior]
is the Christ [the
Anointed, the Messiah],
the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through
his name.
Why
were these verses written? So that you might believe that Jesus
(the Savior) is the Christ (the Anointed, the Messiah), the Son
of God! Matthew, Mark, Luke and John said Jesus is the son of God!
If you don't believe Jesus is the Son of God, you don't have spiritual
life! Renewing our minds to God's Word, understanding clearly that
Jesus is the son of God, and not God, allows us to prove what is
that good, acceptable, and perfect Will of God.
Now,
let's see what the Bible says regarding who Satan, the devil, the
adversary and his unclean spirits say Jesus is.
Matthew
4:1-3:
Then
was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted
of the devil.
And
when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward
hungered.
And
when the tempter came to him, he said, if thou be the Son of God,
command that these stones be made bread.
The
devil didn't say, "If thou be God the son, command that these
stones be made bread." The devil knew Jesus was the son of
God, and addressed him according to this belief.
Who
did the unclean devil spirits called Jesus?
Mark
3:11:
And
unclean spirits, when they saw him [Jesus], fell down before
him, and cried, saying, thou art the Son of God.
Mark
5:7:
And
cried with a loud voice, and said, what have I to do with thee,
Jesus, thou Son of the most high God?
The
devil and the devil spirits understood that Jesus was the son of
God. They knew there was a difference between God and the son of
God.
Finally,
how do the Church Epistles (Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians,
Philippians, Colossians and Thessalonians) reference Jesus?
Romans
1:4:
And
declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit
of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.
2 Corinthians
1:19:
For
the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us,
even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but
in him was yea.
Galatians
2:20:
I
am [was]
crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live
by the faith [believing]
of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Ephesians
4:13:
Till
we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of
the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature
of the fulness of Christ.
These
are just a few of the many scriptures from the Church Epistles that
say Jesus is the son of God! If you believe Jesus is God, then you
have made the commandments of God ineffective by your tradition
and wrong teaching. However, this reversal of the truth is nothing
new as Jesus confronted scribes and Pharisees about the same thing.
Matthew
15:1-9:
Then
came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem,
saying why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders?
for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
But he answered and said unto them, why do ye also transgress
the commandment of God by your tradition?
For God commanded, saying, honor thy father and mother: and, He
that curses father or mother, let him [be put to death] die
the death.
But ye say, whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, it
is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus,
have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
this people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth
me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments
of men.
You
do not want to go through life worshiping God in vain by teaching
and/or believing that Jesus Christ is God? This is the commandment
of men and wrongly dividing the Word of God. You cannot have genuine
spiritual growth and spiritual power in your life if you believe
Jesus Christ is God! You must renew your mind to be in alignment
with God's Word by confessing Jesus Christ as the son of God.
If
you confess Jesus is the Son of God, then God is in you. As it is
written in 1 John
4:15:
Whosoever
shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him
[sonship], and he in [fellowship] God.
If
you confess Jesus is God, then God does not dwell in you and you
have no fellowship with God! We that believed Jesus is the son of
God can overcome the god of this world as declared in 1 John 5:5:
Who
is he that overcometh [conquer]
the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
And
as it is written in 1 John 5:13:
These
things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the
Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that
ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
In
summary we renewed our minds to align with God's Word to understand
clearly and without question who:
- God
our Father says His son is;
- God's
son, the Lord Jesus Christ, says he is;
- Jesus's
disciples said he is;
- The
devil spirits say Jesus is; and
- The
Church Epistles (Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians,
Colossians, and Thessalonians) declare Jesus to be.
This
month's teaching has declared Jesus Christ is the son of God! To
achieve spiritual growth, our foundation must be built on God's
Word rightly divided. Jesus Christ as the son of God is the foundation
of our spiritual growth. We renew our minds daily with our understanding
of the Word, and our walk (actions) on God's Word.
Father,
thank for your Word which is your Will. You have declared without
a shadow of doubt that Jesus Christ is your only begotten son. Father,
thank you for the love you have bestowed on us, that we should be
called your children. Thank you for making us your heirs and joint
heirs with your son. Father, we pray that one day you will say we
are your beloved sons and daughters, in whom you are well pleased
with. In the name of Jesus Christ your only begotten son, Amen.
Next
month's teaching will be on: One God in Unity.
