And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the Ministry of Reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the Word of Reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Almighty God, in whom every heart is open unto; Jehovah, the creator of the heavens and the earth and all things contained therein, Jehovah, God who formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul, we are so thankful for your Word which is your Will that tells us we are your sons and daughters and we are heaven bound and there is nothing in this world that can stop us from going there. Father, thank you for what you have already done for us now and in the future through the accomplished works of your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

In the November 2020 teaching, we discussed the differences between hope and believing. We defined the word "hope" and showed how it is listed third in Ephesians 4:4. We looked at some of the usages of the number three (3) throughout the Word of God; the number three signifies divine perfection, wholeness, and completeness. We reviewed some examples of the number three in God's Word.

Our knowledge of the hope of the return of Christ is so important in a man or woman's life. The understanding of this hope helps us endure the mental, physical and emotional distresses we face! The knowledge we gain from reading God's Word about our new body and the future rewards for our faithfulness to God's Word on this earth gives us endurance to stand!

We will continue with Ephesians 4:5-6 which will be our theme for the next several months.

One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. [bold added for emphasis]

This month's teaching will focus on the following:

  • We will define the English word "Lord." We will discuss the differences between Lord (Jehovah) when it refers to God our father and when Lord (Kurios - master) refers to His son the Lord (master) Jesus Christ.
  • "Lord" is listed fourth in Ephesians 4:5. We will discuss what the number four means in God's Word and review some examples.
  • We will continue with our word-based study on the next unity of the spirit or "Lord" by reviewing some of the scriptures for the Greek word "kurios" which is our English word "Lord." There are 749 occurrences of Greek word "kurios" in God's Word.

Our English word "Lord" is the "Hebrew word Jehovah as a name for God, it is used as predicated, of him, or when He is addressed or spoken of. The name Jehovah represent God in relation to what He has created." (Bullinger (1975) Critical Lexicon and Concordance to the English and Greek New Testament)

A special note to remember as we discuss this teaching - When associated with Christ, "Lord" is used because Christ stands in the same relationship to us as God. However, while the Greek word for "Lord" is used as a translation of Jehovah, the name Jehovah is never applied to Christ. When "Lord" refers to Jesus Christ, the Greek word "kurios" which means "sir, master or supremacy" is the proper translation.

In the Epistles, "Lord" generally refers to Christ and denotes his position of master in relation to his people, as he who has ownership and authority over them. Hence, all the social and natural relationships of life are to be regarded and performed as subject to his authority. (Bullinger (1975) Critical Lexicon and Concordance to the English and Greek New Testament)

When God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, is called "Lord" in the Old Testament, it is translated "Jehovah" representing God's connection to what He created. For example, the word "Lord" throughout Genesis 2 is the word "Jehovah." Remember, the name Jehovah is never applied to Christ.

Genesis 2:4:

These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord [Jehovah] God made the earth and the heavens.

Genesis 2:5:

And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord [Jehovah] God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

Genesis 2:7:

And the Lord [Jehovah] God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Exodus 6:3:

And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them.

Psalm 83:18:

That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most-high over all the earth.

Isaiah 12:2:

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

Isaiah 26:4:

Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.

When the word "Lord" refers to God's son, the Lord Jesus Christ, it is translated "master" never "Jehovah." Examples of this include the following:

Romans 10: 9:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord [Greek word kurios for master] Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

1 Corinthians 12:3:

Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord [Greek word kurios for master], but by the Holy Ghost [speaking in tongues].

Understanding the differences in the usage/translation of the word "Lord" - whether for God or for Jesus Christ - is the difference between truth and error.

The next topic for discussion this month is on the use of the number four in God's Word. In Ephesians 4:5, the word "Lord" is the fourth listed.

One Lord, one faith, one baptism.

The number four is made up of 3 + 1 wherein three is perfection, and one is unity. Perfection and unity together always indicate the number of man's relationship to the Creator. Therefore, the number four is always the world number because this is the world's relationship to God who created, formed and made it.

Let's look at some examples of the number 4 in God's Word.

  • Genesis 1:14: Signs, seasons, days and years.
  • Genesis 2:10: And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted and became into four heads.
  • Genesis 2:11, 13 and 14: There are four great rivers: Pison, Gihon, Hiddekel and Euphrates.
  • Revelation 21:13: East, West, North and South.

On the fourth day in Genesis 1: 14-19 God's Word declares:

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

Remember, in the Bible, the number four is the world number because this is the world's relationship to God who created, formed and made it.

Now let us read some of the usages for the Greek word "kurios" which is our English word Lord, which means master. We will look at some of the usages from the three doctrine Church Epistles: Romans, Ephesians and Thessalonians.

The word "Lord" or "kurios" when referring to Jesus Christ means "master." This usage instructs that we must first make Jesus Christ Lord or our master! And how do you say you have made Jesus your Lord? 1 Corinthians 12:3 tells us:

Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord [kurios - master], but by the Holy Ghost [speaking in tongues].

God's Word says that no one can say that Jesus is the Lord (kurios - master) but by the Holy Ghost! Speaking in tongues is your proof in this senses world that you have made Jesus Christ Lord! How tremendous this proof is to absolutely know that you have made Jesus Christ your Lord and master!

Romans 5:21:

That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace [God's unmerited favor] reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord [kurios -master].

Romans 6:23:

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord [kurios -master].

Romans 8:39:

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord [kurios - master].

Romans 15:6:

That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord [kurios - master] Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:3:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord [kurios - master] Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

Ephesians 1:17:

That the God of our Lord [kurios - master] Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.

Ephesians 5:20:

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord [kurios - master] Jesus Christ.

This verse plainly states we are to give thanks for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord (kurios - master) Jesus Christ. It does not state to give thanks in the name of Jesus. I didn't write it. I am just reading God's Word, believing it, saying it and doing it!

Ephesians 6:23:

Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith [believing], from God the Father and the Lord [kurios - master] Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 1:3:

Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord [kurios - master] Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father.

1 Thessalonians 2:19:

For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord [kurios - master] Jesus Christ at his coming?

1 Thessalonians 3:12:

And the Lord [kurios - master] make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you.

2 Thessalonians 1:12:

That the name of our Lord [kurios - master] Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord [kurios - master] Jesus Christ.

2 Thessalonians 3:1:

Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord [kurios - master] may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you.

As we endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3), we have one Lord, the Lord Jesus Christ our master. Through him we have peace with God our Father. We have eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. Nothing can separate us from the love of God our Father which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Through Jesus Christ our Lord God our Father has blessed us with all spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ. We give thanks always for all things to God our Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the master key to the interpretation of the Word of God. He paid for our sin and the consequence of that sin, sickness and death. The Lord Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. no man cometh unto the Father, but by him (John 14:6). Acts 4:12 tells us:

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name [Jesus Christ] under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Because it is Christ in us the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27), and we are joint heirs (Romans 8:17) with the Lord Jesus Christ our master, we pull together to do the will of God our Father! Every time we speak in tongues, we say that Jesus is Lord!

In this teaching, we defined the English word "Lord." We discussed the differences between Lord (Jehovah) when it refers to God, our father, and when Lord (kurios - master) refers to His son, the Lord Jesus Christ. The word "Lord" is listed fourth in Ephesians 4:5, and we discussed what the number four means in God's Word and reviewed some examples. We continued with our word-based study on the next unity of the spirit - "Lord" - by reviewing some of the scriptures for the Greek word "kurios."

This word study for "Lord" is a very small sample, but you can see even from this small sample how a word study can provide you with a better understanding of some of the things our Lord Jesus Christ accomplished for us! And how to say that you have made him Lord by speaking in tongues!

Lord God Almighty, we thank you for your Word that declares how we can say that we have made your son Lord and master by the operation of your gift of holy spirit. Father, thank you that through the Lord Jesus Christ we have authority and power in his name to walk with boldness and confidence knowing we are your sons and daughters. Father, thank you for giving us understanding of our relationship with you and your son based on your Word.

Bless the Lord Jehovah, O my soul and all that is within me, bless His Holy name. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward all people. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

In the January 2021 teaching, we will continue with our word-based study on the next unity of the spirit - "Faith" - which is listed fifth in Ephesians 4:5. We will review some of the scriptures for the Greek word "pistis" or "faith."

In the Lord,

Ministry of Reconciliation
Son of God through Jesus Christ
Ambassador for Christ
