And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the Ministry of Reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the Word of Reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

What is the Ministry of Reconciliation?

It is my hope and pray that you are blessed with all the abilities God has given us through His Word and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. One of the gifts we have been given is the Ministry of Reconciliation. I learned long ago when you base your actions on the Word of God you are guaranteed success. Let's start our understanding of the Ministry of Reconciliation in
2 Corinthians 5:18:

And all things are of God, who hath [past tense]reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation

The "us" is each of us - the born again believers! Isn't that breathtaking? God has reconciled us to Himself. The word "reconcile" means to bring back together that which was separated. Man was separated from God when Eve and Adam sinned (Genesis 3). Man is born body and soul, without spirit. We lost our spiritual connection to God when Adam and Eve sinned. Since God is spirit, we became separated from God. It is through the works of Jesus Christ that God reconciled man back to Himself. It is through Jesus Christ that we now can receive God's spirit.

How do we receive God's spirit? We receive God's spirit by doing what is written in Romans 10: 9-10:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

By following what is written in Romans 10: 9-10, we are saved or born again of God spirit! I know some ministers teach that you have to confess your sins. But that's not what God's Word says. Who can possibly remember all of his or her sins? According to this logic, if you missed one sin, you couldn't be born again. Jesus Christ took the place of our sins, so we no longer need to confess our sins. By understanding Romans 10: 9-10 we see that salvation is based on confessing the Lord Jesus , and no longer confessing our sins. We are to confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in the innermost part of your heart that God raised him from the dead. That's what God's Word says and that's what it means.

The word "salvation" is the Greek word "soteria." It a derivative from the word "sozo" meaning "wholeness," "completeness." Salvation, wholeness or completeness, is what we receive when we are born again. Once we do Romans 10: 9-10, we are a son or daughter of God and part of God's family!

Now that we are born again, it is important to understand that we are sons and daughters of God. Let's look at 1 John 3:1.

Behold [pay attention], what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.

If this is true, there has to be some incredible power in this new creation of life within! The first time I was born, I was called the son of my earthly father. Later in life, I was born again; this time I got another Father. This Father is my spiritual Father. How long am I my earthly father's son? Until my last breath on earth. How long am I my spiritual Father's son? As long as I have spiritual life. How long is that? John 3:16 said it is everlasting life. My first birth gave me my earthly father. It is through my actions of Romans 10:9-10 that I gained my spiritual Father. It is through my second birth that I received God's spirit. My second birth, and the everlasting life that I got, is actually greater than my first birth! My first birth is an earthly birth, and I know that one day my earthly body will die. But my second birth gave me everlasting spiritual life! Just think about how tremendous that is!

We can see how great this everlasting life will be by continuing in 1 John 3 and look at verse 2:

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

We are sons or daughters of God in our second birth when we follow the actions of Romans 10: 9-10. We are sons or daughters right then! Not later by confessing our sins. Not later when we say a certain prayer or give a specified amount of money. We are sons or daughters of God NOW! Understanding this incredible gift provides us with renewed power in the newness of this life within us! That is so magnificent, that's incredible! I am a son of God through Jesus Christ, and so are you!

As a son or daughter of God, you are considered a new creation.
2 Corinthians 5:17 explains:

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature [creation]: old things are passed away; behold, all things [all the new things of that new creation] are become new.

Let's understand this more. As a new creation, the old things of sin, the old things of weakness, the old things of condemnation, the old things of fear, guilt, worry and anxiety are all passed away! When we were born again of God's spirit, we receive Christ in us. At that moment, we get a new creation of life. We get remission of sins because we are in Christ. After the new birth, we must remain in Christ by walking in alignment with God's Word.

The moment we were born again we are given the Ministry of Reconciliation. Let's look at 2 Corinthians 5:18-20:

And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the Ministry of Reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the Word of Reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Think about this for a second. . .every born again Christian has the Ministry of Reconciliation. We have what God has given us and the Word of God says He has given us the Ministry of Reconciliation. If God has given it to us, then we have it! He didn't give it to an angel. He didn't give it based our education. He didn't give it based on our occupations. He didn't give it based on our gender or our race or our parents or our friends. He gave it directly to us!

The word "Ministry" means service rendered by a servant. We are sons or daughters of God in our direct relationship with Him as our spiritual Father. But we are servants to our fellow men and women, our family and friends, our co-workers and strangers. This is the Ministry He has given us! And this Ministry is to reconcile - bring back together that which was separated - people back to God. Now that you have this understanding. . . thank God our Father. . . and move out and do something with your ministry!

In 2 Corinthians 5:19, we are given more information about our Ministry of Reconciliation:

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses [sins] unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Let's break this verse down so we can understand more about our Ministry of Reconciliation. God was where? God was in Christ. Some people think Jesus Christ is God, and this is a topic I will address later. For now, let's look at the verse and remember that God was in Christ. It doesn't say God was Christ or Christ was God. And the Word of God says it's Christ in you the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27) when you're born again of God's Spirit.

Jesus Christ said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do: because I go unto my Father" (John 14:12). Remember it is God in Christ in you the hope of glory. Christ in you is son-ship, you, in Christ, is fellowship. It's the Word of God that we must put on in our minds day-by-day to walk in fellowship with God. Remember it is God in Christ in you. That is your son-ship! You, in Christ, is fellowship.

It's the Word of God that we must put on in our minds day by day to walk in fellowship with God. It's the Word of God and Jesus Christ that reconciled you and me back to God. The Word of God and Jesus Christ is the only thing that can reconcile us back to God.

Let's continue with 2 Corinthians 5:20-21 to learn more:

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.For he hath made him [Jesus] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

When are we ambassadors for Christ? Now! We are ambassadors for Christ the minute we are born again - as soon as we follow the instructions in Romans 10: 9-10. We don't get our Ministry of Reconciliation when we pass away. We get it right then and there! Every born again believer is an ambassador for Christ.

Ask yourself what do people see when they see you? Do they see an ambassador for Christ? Do they see Christ in you? What are you illuminating? You have the Ministry of Reconciliation and this makes YOU an Ambassador for Christ!

And as Ambassadors for Christ we are made with "the righteousness of God in him." God made us righteousness in Christ. It has nothing to do with our feelings or works or who we know or what we said. We are righteousness when we are born again. We are righteousness in the Ministry of Reconciliation. We are righteousness as Ambassadors for Christ. We are righteousness NOW!

God has given us a great honor to reconcile men and women back to Him. One day, we will have to give an account for what we did with our Ministry of Reconciliation. God has given us the Ministry of Reconciliation, and He expects us to do something with it. We are sons or daughters of God! God has given us the Ministry of Reconciliation. We are Ambassadors for Christ, and He made us righteousness in Christ. Romans 8:1 tells us "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus." Wow! What a God and Father!

For me, I believe God's Word and when it says I have the Ministry of Reconciliation. I believe I am a son of God through Jesus Christ. I believe I am an Ambassador for Christ. I believe I am made righteous in Christ. I believe I have no condemnation because I am in Christ Jesus.

I am so thankful to God our Father for this great honor and privilege to reconcile men and women back to Him. Let's move out together in our Ministry of Reconciliation!

In the Lord,

Ministry of Reconciliation
Son of God through Jesus Christ
Ambassador for Christ
